QLD: Grice says drunks should not be allowed to vote

BRISBANE, Dec 9 AAP - People who turn up to polling booths drunk should not be allowed to
vote, Queensland National Party MP Allan Grice said.

Speaking on ABC Radio this morning, Mr Grice said he had been handing out Nationals
how-to-vote cards at Yarrabah, south of Cairns, for last Saturdays Mulgrave by-election when
he saw several intoxicated people entering the polling booth.

"I cant think of any legal contract that stands when you are totally inebriated like
that," he said.

"I cant imagine a normal polling booth allowing someone to vote who was so inebriated that
they went to sleep in the middle of the floor."

Queensland Electoral Commissioner Des OShea said people were allowed to vote if they could
identify themselves or others could identify them.
